Basic Structural Explosive Breaching
40 training hours (5 days)
Cost: $1295
This course is designed as the starting point for all individuals and teams that would like to start a breaching program, as well as teams with a limited breaching capability. At the completion of this course, students will have a basic capability in window and door breaching to breach structures for the resolution of crisis or hostage events.
Prerequisites:
Restricted to full time local, state, and federal law enforcement officers and bomb techs assigned to an EOD unit or SWAT/SRT team breaching cell.
Subjects include:
- Explosive history, theory, and safety
- Breacher responsibilites
- Policies and establishing an SOP
- Documentation and liability
- Breaching mathematics (charge calculations)
- Overpressure formulas using Anderson Blast Gauge
- Recognition and handling
- Charge characteristics / construction (window and door charges)
- Shock tube priming systems
- Mission intelligence in charge selection
- Placement / live fire drills
- Alternate breach points
Equipment Needed:
- Body armor
- Load bearing vest
- Primary weapon (MP5, M4, etc.)
- Service pistol
- Helmet
- Respirator
- Safety glasses or goggles
- Ear protection
- Assault gloves
- Knee & elbow pads
- Radio with ear piece and remote mike (if attending as a team)
- Nomex balaclava
- Nomex or other flame resistant clothing – BDU’s (recommended)
- Straight bladed knife with sheath
- Flashlight
- First aid kit (personal)
- Electrical tape (black, 1 roll) (not mandatory)
- Mirror (tactical)
- Watch
- Calculator (Texas Instruments ti 30 x a solar)
- Notebook (basic course)
- Laptop computer (optional)
- Waterproof notebook / Pencil / Pencil
- Rubber door wedges (2) (not mandatory)
- Hydration system (CamelBak)
- Camera (if you want to take pictures during the course)
